“I think the nifflers are trying to split me in half.” She had one pulling on each of her legs.

Newt laughed. “No. This is one of those shinies that we can’t split in half. Also one of the shinies neither of you can have.” He spoke to them as he pried them off her legs and they continued to reach their tiny hands out to her, trying to grab her again.

Anna smiled and took one of the nifflers. “Thank you for saving me.” She kissed Newt softly. “The shiny appreciates it.”

When she came closer to Newt to kiss him the niffler still in Newt’s arms grabbed onto Anna’s arm as Newt returned the kiss with a blush. “You’re welcome.” He looked down and frowned at the niffler that had reattached itself to Anna. “Well, I tried to at least.”

“I can walk now, at least.” She laughed. “I don’t really need my arms at the moment, so I think it’s alright if they stay here.”

Newt & Autism

This is a topic that is very close to my heart as mom to an amazing kid who happens to have ASD. The first time my son saw Fantastic Beasts, he said, “Mom, I think Newt is autistic like me,” & instantly I knew I had a soft spot for Newt. I was so pleased to get to speak to Eddie about this a bit when we had our fan interview a few months back, & to hear him addressing it again is awesome. (he also spoke about it in his podcast with Dan Fogler). I am grateful for Eddie & J.K. Rowling for creating characters that we can all relate to on some level.

(video is here)

I love your personal connection and what this character and Eddie’s brilliant depiction means to you and your son.
