For a moment, Charlie looked up at her mum with wide eyes, before looking quickly back down at the ground, nervously fiddling with a string coming from her vest. “Why didn’cha want me?” Simple and blunt.
“Charlie…” Her heart broke at the question. She had spent years trying to figure out how she would answer it if she ever found her daughter. “I was— I was seventeen. I didn’t choose to become pregnant. I wanted you to have a better life than you would have had with me. I’m so sorry that you didn’t. I was trying to do the right thing.”
Anna climbed onto Kara’s lap and kissed her neck.
