Quincey frowned as he thought about it. “Close to a year now? I’ve only fully known about it for a few months. I was bitten back in America before I came to England. Didn’t think much about the bite at the time other than it being a particularly painful one. There were some changes after but I mostly ignored them until the blackin’ out. Shortly after that, though, things came up that drew my attention elsewhere. Only after, well, it was my first encounter with a vampire, actually. He killed me, or should’ve done, at least, but I clawed my way out of my own grave the next full moon. Turns out werewolves aren’t that easy to kill. Couldn’t ignore it after that. Also couldn’t endanger my friends. So I left. Only then did I have time to do some research and figure out what was happening to me.”
“That must have been terrifying.” She shook her head and touched his hand gently. “All of it, but especially the being buried… not alive, I suppose, but… waking up in the ground…” She shook her head again. “I’m sorry you lost so much because of it.”
