Anyway it’s cool that the Vikings were fastidious about keeping clean and tidy and smelling good and respecting women and all that but they also raped and pillaged foreign cities so you know, let’s not try to paint them as some idyllic pinnacle of progressive ideals.

Let’s remember that the culture of keeping tidy and respecting women was just the culture of Scandinavia, and that most of them were farmers. Vikings were the ones that sailed and pillaged and raped. Not all Scandinavians/ Nordic people at the time were Vikings. So you can praise that part of the Nordic culture without praising Vikings.
